Sun City West is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States. The population was 25,806 at the 2020 census. Sun City West was constructed on an 11,000-acre (4,500 ha) site to the west of Sun City, including part of the former Lizard Acres cattle ranch. The community is located 23 miles (37 km) northwest of downtown Phoenix at 33°3943N 112°2131W (33.661829, 112.358740). It is bordered to the south, west, and north by the city of Surprise. U.S. Route 60 runs along the southwest border of the community, and the Arizona State Route 303 freeway bounds the community to the north and northwest. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 12.0 square miles (31 km²), of which 0.04 square miles, or 0.10 km², are water. The median household income was $44,614 and the median family income was $58,345. About 2.5% of families and 5.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including none of those under age 18 and5.0% of those age 65 or over.Due to the 2019-20 coronavirus pandemic the city announced on March 11, 2020, the closures of all recreation centers to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

The CDP is home to the Sun City West Community Center, which was established in the 1970s. The community center is located at 33°3943N 112°2131W (33.661829, 112.358740). It is located on the Arizona State Route 303 freeway, which bounds the community to the north and northwest of the city. It has a population of 1,816. The city is located in the central part of the state, and is about 23 miles from downtown Phoenix, the city's largest city. The area is about 31 km², or 12 square miles, with 0.10% of that being water. The town has a community center, which opened in the 1980s. It was named after the community of Sun City, Arizona, which is located to the west of the town. It also has a public park, Sun City Park, which sits on a hilltop and overlooks the community, and the community's main street, which runs through the center of the village.

History
Sun City West was constructed on an 11,000-acre (4,500 ha) site to the west of Sun City, including part of the former Lizard Acres cattle ranch. It was completely built out in 1998, and a sister city, Sun City Grand, was started. The city announced on March 11, 2020, the closures of all recreation centers to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. This later led to the closure of all seven golf courses on April 13, 2020. Sun City West is located on the banks of the Red River, which runs through the center of the city. It has a population of 2,000,000 (3,000 in 2011) and is home to the South African Open, a junior high and high school. It also has a high school, which was founded in the 1970s and is located in the city's downtown area. It is the only city in South Africa to have its own airport, which opened in 1998. The airport has a capacity of 1,200,000 people (1,200 in 2011). The city also has its own water treatment plant, which began in the 1990s. It opened on the site of a former cattle ranch, which is now called the Sun City Water Treatment Plant. The water treatment facility was built in the early 1990s, and was completed in the mid-1990s.
