Belleview is a city in Marion County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,413 at the 2020 census, up from 4,492 in 2010. The city's name comes from the French words belle and vue, meaning "beautiful view" "The City with Small Town Charm" is the city's motto. U.S. Routes 27, 441, and 301 pass through the center of the city. Belleview is located in southern Marion County at 29°0341N 82°0318W. All three lead northwest 10 miles (16 km) to Ocala, the county seat. According to the United States Census Bureau, Belleview has a total area of 4.0 square miles (10 km²), of which 0.004 sq miles (2.6 acres), or 0.10%, are water. The town's school district is Marion County Public Schools. The schools in Belleview are: Belleview High School; Belleview Middle School; and Belleview-Santos Elementary School.

History

A post office has been in operation at Belleview since 1883. Belleview is located on the Ohio River. The town has a population of about 2,000. The post office was established in 1883 and has been there ever since.

Geography

Belleview is located in southern Marion County at 29°0341N 82°0318W. U.S. Routes 27, 441, and 301 pass through the center of the town. Belleview has a total area of 4.0 square miles (10 km²), of which 0.004 square mile (2.6 acres), or 0.10%, are water. The town is located near the intersection of U.N. Highway 27 and U. S. Route 441 in Marion County, which leads northwest 10 miles to Ocala and southeast 22 miles to Leesburg. It is also near the junction of Routes 301 and 441 which leads south 13 miles (21 km) to Wildwood and north 22 miles (35km) to OCala. It has a population of 1,071. The city is home to the Belleview High School, which was founded in 1883. The school is located on the former site of the former Belleview Jail. The Belleview Post Office was established in 1881 and is now located in the town of Belleview. It was the first post office in the state of Florida to open in 1882. The post office has been closed and replaced by a new post office, which opened in 1894. The current post office is closed and has been replaced with a new one, which is based in Belleview, Florida, and has a new name, Belleview Elementary School. The new school was built in 1998.

As of the census of 2000, there were 3,478 people, 1,600 households, and 956 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,905.5 inhabitants per square mile (733.8/km²) The racial makeup of the city was 91.14% White, 4.23% African American, 0.46% Native American,0.58% Asian, 2.10% from other races, and 1.50% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.68% of the population. The city's population was spread out, with 20.2% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 23.5% from 25 to 44, 20.4% from 45 to 64, and 27. 5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 87.7 males. For each 100 females age 18 and over there were 82.3 males. the median income for a household was $26,250. The per capita income for the city is $18,241. About 8.8% of families and 12.3%. of the town's population were below the poverty line, including 12.8%. of those under 18 and 7.4. of those age 65 or over. The average household size is 2.14 and the average family size was 2.72. It is one of the smallest cities in the state, with a population of just over 3,000.
