Dunnellon is a city in Marion County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,928 at the 2020 census, up from 1,733 in 2010. It is part of the Ocala Metropolitan Statistical Area. U.S. Route 41 passes through the city, leading north 24 miles (39 km) to Williston and south 18 miles (29km) to Inverness. Dunnellon was founded in 1887 after phosphate was discovered in the area. The city was used as a filming location for the 2001 horror film Jeepers, with a great deal of work on Tiger High School Road (officially known as 180th Avenue) The city is located at 29°3'N 82°27'W (29.0500, 82.4555), 76 miles (122 km) due north of Tampa. It has a total area of 9.1 square miles (24 km²), of which 8.8 sq miles (23 km²) are land and 0.3sq miles (0.8km²), or 3.27%, are water. The Rainbow River joins the Withlacoochee River, with the combined flow leading west toward the Gulf of Mexico. The main road is US 41, a major-to-north highway that runs from Miami to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It merges with CR 336 in Levy County, where it turns south onto State Road 40, turning onto the US 41 State Road.

It is bordered to the southwest by the Withlacoochee River, which forms the border with Citrus County. U.S. Route 41 passes through the city, leading north 24 miles (39 km) to Williston and south 18 miles (29km) to Inverness. According to the United States Census Bureau, Dunnellon has a total area of 9.1 square miles (24 km²), of which 8.8 sq miles (23 km²) are land and 0.3 sq miles(0.8 km²): 3.27% is water. The Rainbow River joins the withlacoOChee River in DunnellON, with the combined flow leading west toward the Gulf of Mexico. Ocala, the Marion county seat, is 24 miles to the northeast. The city is located on the Florida Turnpike, which runs from Tampa to Orlando. The turnpike is one of the busiest highways in the state, carrying more than 100,000 vehicles a day. It was built in the 1930s and has a paved surface of about 1,000 feet (300 m) by 1,200 feet (400 m) in the 1950s. It has a population of about 2,000 (1,100 people).

History
Dunnellon was founded in 1887. phosphate was discovered in the area, leading to an expansion of the area for mining, which lasted until the early 1910s. The original mining took place in and around the Rainbow River (formerly called 'Blue Run'), using the river's natural flow to transport phosphates. What is now referred to as the 'Blue Cove' subdivision, was one of the original mining pits. The area served as filming locations for the 2001 horror film Jeepers Creepers, with a great deal of location work on Tiger Trail (a.k.a. High School Road), the road to Dunnellon High School, officially known as SW 180th Avenue Rd., just outside Rainbow Springs State Park. The town has a population of about 2,000, with the majority of its residents living in or near the town center. It is located on the banks of the Blue Run River, which is a tributary of the Mississippi River. The city's name is derived from the word 'dull', which means 'dwelling' or 'to look at' in English. It was also known as 'Dunkin' in the 19th century, when the town was first founded. The current name of the town comes from the name of a former mining pit, which was used in the early 20th century. The community is now known as the town of 'Dunnnellon' and was once called 'Dinnnellon', but has since changed its name.
Transportation
The main road through Dunnellon is US 41 a major south-to-north highway that runs from Miami to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Just outside the city, the Dunnellan/Marion County Airport can be found along CR 484. The city had four railroad lines in the past: two owned by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, one owned by. the Seaboard Air Line Railroad and one owned. by the Florida Northern Railroad. The town is located in Marion County, which is part of the Miami-Dade County Metropolitan Statistical Area. It has a population of around 2,000 people, with the majority of its residents living in or near the city of Dunnell on the outskirts of the city. It is located on the eastern edge of the Florida panhandle, near the border with Florida's Piedmont region and Florida's Panhandle. It was once part of Florida's Florida Panhandle, but has since been annexed by the state of Florida and is now part of Marion County. It also has a small portion of the U.S. Turnpike, which runs through the city and connects it to Florida's Turnpikes and the Florida Turnpix.
