Secor is a village in Clayton Township, Woodford County, Illinois, United States. The population was 373 at the 2010 census. It is located just off U.S. Route 24 between El Paso and Eureka. The town was named after Charles A. Secor, a partner in the Engineering firm that laid out the eastern branch of the Peoria and Oquawka Railroad. Minnie Vautrin, an American Missionary to China and known as the "Goddess of Mercy", was founder of Ginling Girls College in Nanjing China. She is highly honored in China for establishing a sanctuary on the grounds of the Ginling college in order to protect Chinese non-combatants from 6 weeks of killing, looting and raping. She was posthumously awarded the Emblem of the Blue Jade by the Chinese government for her actions during the massacre. The village is located at 40°4428N 89°89W (40.741074, -89.135875). According to the 2010 Census, Secor has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.78 km²), all land. The median income in the village was $44,205, and the median income for a family was $ 44,722. About 9.4% of families and 8.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.5% of those under age 18 and 17.2%. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was2.98.

History

The town was named after Charles A. Secor. He was a partner in the Engineering firm that laid out the eastern branch of the Peoria and Oquawka Railroad. The town has a population of about 2,000. It is located on the banks of the Illinois River. It was once known as the "Illinois River town" and was once called "The River Town" It is now known as "The Town of Secor" and is located near the town of Oquawska. It has a total population of around 2,200, with about 1,000 people living in the town. The city is now part of the city of Peoria, Illinois, and the town's population is about 3,200. It also lies on the eastern edge of the state of Illinois and is on the Illinois-Illinois State Highway System.
