Sheffield, Iowa is located at 42°5337N 93°131W (42.893649, 93.217067) The city has a total area of 5.58 square miles (14.45 km²), of which 5.55 square miles of it is land and 0.03 square mile (0.08 km²) is water. The population was 1,130 at the time of the 2020 census. Sheffield was platted in 1874, and it was named for a personal friend of the founder's. Sheffield is part of the West Fork Community School District, formed in 2011 by the merger of Sheffield and RockwellSwaledale Community Schools. The city is located in Franklin County, Iowa, and is located on the Iowa-Mississippi border. It is located near the Iowa/Missouri border and is on the U.S. Turnpike, which runs from Iowa to South Dakota. It has a population of 1,172, according to the 2010 census. Sheffield is home to the Sheffield High School, which was founded in the 1950s. The high school is located on the campus of the University of South Carolina at Greenville. The school's mascot is the Bulldog and the school's colors are blue and white. It is also the home of the South Carolina Gamecocks, who have won several state championships in recent years. The South Carolina High School of Science and Technology is located in the town. It was founded by the South Carolinians in the 1960s after the district's merger with the Chapin Community School district. It has been home to a number of high schools, including South Carolina State College, South Carolina College of Education, and South Carolina Agricultural and Life Sciences. It also has its own high school, the Sheffield School of Music, which opened in the 1970s. In the 1990s, the school added a middle school and a high school. It now has a total enrollment of 1,856 students. The West Fork community school district is made up of the districts of Sheffield, Chapin, and Rockwell Swaledale. It formed in 2007 by the merge of the SCMT and the Meservey Thornton community school districts. Notable person

Fred Schwengel represented Iowa's 1st congressional district for over a decade. He was a member of the Iowa House of Representatives. He served in the House from 2003 to 2010. He is a former member of Iowa's Senate and Iowa's House of Representative. He died in 2011 at the age of 69. He had served in Congress for over 10 years and was a Republican. He also served as governor of Iowa from 2002 to 2007. He has a daughter and son-in-law, both of whom are also politicians. He lived in Iowa and served as a congressman from Iowa for 10 years. He currently lives in Iowa with his wife and two children. He previously served as Iowa's governor from 2001 to 2007, and was in Congress from 2007 to 2010, when his term ended. His son, also a congressman, is currently serving in the Iowa Senate. His daughter is a congresswoman from Iowa, as well. She was elected in 2008 and served until 2010.
