Fraser is a city in Macomb County of the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 14,480 at the 2010 census. The city has a total area of 4.16 square miles (10.77 km²) The city is nearly square, bordered by 15 Mile Road, Kelly Road, 13 Mile Road, and Hayes. Road. Fraser was incorporated by an act of the state legislature in 1894. The City of Fraser was established by home rule charter November 7, 1956, and adopted by the electors on December 26, 1956. It was named for a lawyer from Detroit named Alexander J. Frazer. It is part of the Metro Detroit region, and is located in the Detroit Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes the suburbs of Detroit, Dearborn, Romeo, and Lapeer, as well as the city of Macomb. It has a population density of 3,497.6 inhabitants per square mile (1,350.4/km²) and a population of 15,297 people, 6,062 households, and 4,122 families living in the city. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was2.96. The median income for a household was $50,339, and the median for a family was $64,119. The racial makeup of the city was 92.0% White, 3.9% African American, 0.5% Asian, 1.3% from other races, and 1.8% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.1%.

History

The Village of Fraser was incorporated by an act of the state legislature in 1894. The city was named for a lawyer from Detroit named Alexander J. Frazer. Fraser was established by home rule charter November 7, 1956, and adopted by the electors on December 26, 1956. The City of Fraser is located on the banks of the Fraser River, which flows into the Detroit River. The Fraser River was once a tributary of the Red River, but has now become a major waterway for the Detroit and Detroit areas. It is the only city in Michigan to have been named after a U.S. president. It has a population of more than 100,000, making it one of the most populous cities in the United States. It also has the second largest population of any city in the state, after Detroit, with more than 80,000 people. It was the first city to be incorporated by a state legislature, and the first to be established by a home rule Charter. It became a city in 1956, after being established by the voters in a referendum in December of that year, and was named by the city council on November 7 of the same year. The name Fraser was first used in the 1894 act of incorporation, and it is still used today in the city's official name. The town's name is derived from the word Fraser, which means "river" or "stream" in English, and "friar" in German, which is the name of a local river.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.16 square miles (10.77 km²) The city is nearly square, bordered by 15 Mile Road, Kelly Road, 13 Mile Road and Hayes Road. The city was founded in the early 1900s. It is located on the Ohio River, which runs through the center of the city. It was the site of the first recorded human settlement in the United States, in 1805. It has a population of 2,856. The town is located near the intersection of 15 Mile and Kelly Roads. It also is near the junction of 13 Mile and Hayes Roads, which is also known as the "Main Street" of the town. The area was once called the "Ohio River Valley" and was once known as "The Ohio River Valley". It was named after the river, which ran through the city's center. The name "Ohio Valley" means "Ohio" or "The River" in the local dialect, which means "river" and "valley" in English. The river was named in honor of a local pioneer, who died in the area in 1806. The current name of the area is "The City of The City of the same name" and means "City of the Rising Sun" in Spanish. The community was named for the town's founder, who was born in 1807, and was buried in a shallow grave in a nearby ravine. He was buried with his family.

Education

Fraser Public Schools is the public school system in Fraser, Washington. The district scores above the state average on the MEAP Test. The Arts Academy in the Woods is a free public charter academy dedicated to students interested in pursuing fine and performing arts. It is located in the town's downtown area. The school system is part of the Fraser School District, which was formed in the 1950s. It was the first public school district in the state of Washington. It has been in the same location since the 1960s, when the district was formed. The current school system was founded in the 1970s, and it is based in the city's downtown areas. It also has its own charter academy, the Arts Academy In The Woods, which is dedicated to pursuing the fine and performative arts.

Sports

In 1981, Fraser's football team was led by Mark Garalczyk to the State Championships. In 2006, the girls' varsity basketball team, coached by David Kuppe, became the 2nd Macomb County girls' basketball team to make it to the state finals. Fraser is a member of the Michigan State High School Activities Association. The school is located in the town of Fraser, which is located on the banks of the Detroit River. Climate

Fraser has a humid continental climate, abbreviated "Dfb" on climate maps. The region is typified by large seasonal temperature differences, with warm to hot (and often humid) summers and cold (sometimes severely cold) winters. The climate is very different from that of the rest of the province of Northumberland, where the climate is more humid and more arid. Fraser is located on the edge of the Great Lakes region of the Canadian Shield, and the Canadian Rockies to the north.
