Washington Charter Township, located within Metro Detroit, is a charter township of Macomb County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 25,139 at the 2010 census. Washington Township is bordered by the village of Romeo as well as Ray Township, Shelby Township, and Oakland Township in Oakland County. Westview Orchards was founded in what is now Washington Township in 1813. It is home to the historic Octagon House, built by Loren Andrus from 1858 to 1860. A notable weather event occurred on July 2, 1997 when, during the Michigan Tornado Outbreak, an F0 tornado touched down at 26 mile Road and destroyed parts of the east village estates trailer park community. The township has a total area of 36.8 square miles (95.3 km²), of which 36.0 sq miles (93.1 km²) is land and 0.9 sq mile (2.2 km²%) is water. The Township has a Supervisor-Board style township government with elected supervisor, clerk, treasurer and four trustees. School district serving the Township residents are Romeo Community Schools and Utica Community Schools. The median income for a household in the township was $68,841 in 2016; the median for a family was $78,988 in 2000, including 96% of all individuals under the age of 18 (up from 59% in 2000) and 57% of those under 59.7% in 2016.

Washington is the primary city name, but also Washingtn Twp, Washington Township, Washington Twp are acceptable city names or spellings. The official name is Charter Township of Washington. Clifton Mills is an unincorporated community near the intersection of 31 Mile Rd. and Mt. Vernon Rd. (42°4706N 83°0510W ;Elevation: 853 ft./260 m.).Mount Vernon is a village in the northeast corner of the township. Most of the village is in adjacent Bruce Township. Washington is a community in the south central portion of the Township just west of M-53 at 42°4328 N 83°0210W. Located at the intersection. of North 26 Mile Rd and VanDyke Ave. and 28 Mile Roads (42 °4431N 83 °0513W ; Elevation: 830 ft./253 m.). It is located at the junction of M-53 and Romeo Road (42°4531N 83°0512 W). The village has a population of about 2,000. The town of Washington has about 1,200 residents. The township has a total population of 2,200.

History

Westview Orchards was founded in what is now Washington Township in 1813. Washington Township was organized in 1827. It is home to the historic Octagon House, built by Loren Andrus from 1858 to 1860. The town is located on the banks of the Rappahannock River, which runs through the center of the town. It was once known as "Washington Township" or "Washington County" before it was annexed by the City of Washington in 1828. The name was changed to Washington Township after the town was incorporated in 1829. It has a population of about 2,000 people, most of whom live in or near the town of Washington. The township was once called "Washington City" until it was renamed Washington Township by the city council in 1838.

The Township has a Supervisor-Board style township government with elected supervisor, clerk, treasurer and four trustees. School district serving the Township residents are Romeo Community Schools and Utica Community Schools. Rochester Schools from Oakland County also serve the Township. The Township is located in the Oakland County portion of the city of Utica. The township has a population of about 2,000 people. It is located near the town of Romeo, in the county's southern portion, and near Utica in the city's northern part. The town's population is about 1,200 people, and it is located close to Utica and Rochester in the state's southern part, near the towns of Rochester and Romeo. It has an estimated population of 2,100 people, with the majority of its residents living in Utica, Romeo, Utica or Rochester. It also has a small portion of land in the town's northern section, which is called Utica Township, which has an area of 1,000 acres. The township is located in the Upper Peninsula of New York State, and is part of the New York City Metropolitan Statistical Area. It has a population of 2,071. The population of the township was 2,081 at the 2010 U.S. Census. It is the largest township in New York state. The town's population is 2,091. It was the largest town in the state in the early 1900s, when the population was 1,816. The state's population at the time was 1.2 million, making it the third-largest township in the U.N. state. It had a population growth rate of 1.7% between the 1950s and the 1970s. It's the largest county in New Jersey, and the state's second-largest town. It also has the highest percentage of people living in poverty, at 2.7%. The township's population has declined by 1.8% since the 1970 Census, when it was 3,077. It recorded a population loss of 1,788 in the 2010 Census. The largest percentage increase in population was in the 1990s and 2000, when there was a loss of 3,823. The lowest percentage of residents living in the township is in the 2000s, at 1,638.

Weather

A notable weather event occurred on July 2, 1997 when, during the Michigan Tornado Outbreak, an F0 tornado touched down at 26 mile Road and destroyed parts of the east village estates trailer park community. Six people were injured during the events. Weather in Washington Township (an outer suburb of Detroit) is similar to Detroit, generally being only a few degrees cooler allowing for more snow in the winter. The town is located in Wayne County, Michigan, which is part of the state of Michigan. Washington Township is home to the Detroit Lions football team, the Detroit Red Wings, and the Detroit Pistons basketball team. The racial makeup of the township was 94.8% White, 1.6% African American, 0.2% Native American,1.0% Asian,0.04% Pacific Islander, 1,0% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.9% of the population. The median income for a household was $68,841 in 2000 and $83,348 in 2016. The per capita income for the township is $38,657. About 5.7% of families and 7.1% of people were below the poverty line in 2010, up from 2.8%. The township is located on the New Jersey Turnpike, which connects to New Jersey and New Jersey via a tunnel system. It has a population of about 25,000, with the majority of residents living in or near the New York City area. The township has a median age of 41 years, with a population density of 699.2 per square mile (270.0/km²) The township's median income is $78,988 in 2000, and $94,057 in 2016; the median incomes for a family in 2000 was $78.988 and 2016 was $94.057. The average household size is 2.70.
