Savannah is a city and county seat of Andrew County, Missouri, United States. The city was named after Savannah Woods, the child of a first settler. The Andrew County Courthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Savannah is located on Business 71 ten miles north of St Joseph. The One Hundred and Two River flows past two miles east of the city and the Happy Hollar Lake Conservation Area is three miles to the northeast. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.15 square miles (8.16 km²), of which 3.14 square miles of it is land and 0.01 square mile (0.03 km²) is water. The population was 5,069 at the 2020 census, and is expected to reach 5,000 by the end of the decade. The median age in the city was 38 years, with 25.5% of residents under the age of 18, 23.8% from 25 to 44; 22.8%. were from 45 to 64; and 19.1% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of theCity was 45.4% male and 54.6% female. The average household size was 2.41, and the average family size was2.99. It is part of the St. Joseph, MOKS Metropolitan Statistical Area. In the city, the median income for a family was $40,000, while the city household in the area was $32,996.

History

The city was named after Savannah Woods, the child of a first settler. A post office called Savannah has been in operation since 1841. The Andrew County Courthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. The city was founded in 1841 and is located on the banks of the Mississippi River. It is located in Andrew County, which is part of the South Carolina Bootheel region of the U.S. and includes parts of Georgia and South Carolina.

Geography

Savannah is located on Business 71 ten miles north of St Joseph. The One Hundred and Two River flows past two miles east of the city and the Happy Hollar Lake Conservation Area is three miles to the northeast. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.15 square miles (8.16 km²) of which 3.14 square miles are land and 0.01 square miles is water. The city is home to the Savannah High School, which was founded in 1881. The school was the first in the state to open its doors in 1883. It is now a part of the St Joseph-Savannah School District, which opened in 1884. The high school is located in the town of Savannah, which has a population of 2,816. The town is home of the Savannah College of Music, which began in 1885. The college was founded by the parents of a local boy, who moved to the town in 1887. It was named after the Savannah River, which flows through the city. The Savannah River is a tributary of the One Hundred And Two River. It flows past the city, and is known as the "Savannah River" and the "One Hundred and two River" rivers, which flow past the town. It also has a lake, Happy Holler Lake, which is located three miles northeast of the town, and a lake conservation area, the "Happy Hollar" Conservation Area.

Savannah is part of the St. Joseph, MOKS Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the census of 2010, there were 5,057 people, 2,043 households, and 1,327 families living in the city. The racial makeup of the city was 97.7% White, 0.4% African American, 0,3% Native American, and 0.5% Asian. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.6% of the population.
