Jackson Township is one of 14 townships in Carroll County, Indiana. As of the 2010 census, its population was 1,391 and it contained 547 housing units. It is uncertain how or for whom the township was named, but Adam Porter, one of the township's earliest settlers who arrived in the late 1820s, is described as hailing from Jackson Township, Virginia. The township contains four cemeteries: Musselman, Nebo, Nettle and Wise. It has a total area of 30.11 square miles (78.0 km²), of which 99.97% is land and 0.01% is water. The Township was organized in 1830. It was named for Adam Porter who may have named it after his home town of Jackson, Virginia, in the 1800s. It contains four major highways: Indiana State Road 75, State Road 218, Indiana State Route 75A and Indiana State Highway 218. It also has a number of smaller towns, including Liberty, Washington, Monroe, Monroe and Rock Creek. History
Jackson Township was organized in 1830. It was named after the Jackson family, who lived in the area. It is located on the banks of the Mississippi River. The township has a population of about 2,000. It has been home to the U.S. Army since 1838. It also has a hospital, a school, a post office, and a postmaster's office. The town's name is derived from the name of a Jackson family member, who was born in Jackson, New York, in 1802. It's also known as "Jackson Township" or "Jacksonville" for its location in Jackson County, New Jersey.
Geography
According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of 30.11 square miles (78.0 km²) of which 99.97% is land and 0.01% is water. The township contains four cemeteries: Musselman, Nebo, Nettle and Wise. It is located on Indiana State Road 75, State Road 218, and Indiana State Route 75-218. It also contains the towns of Liberty, Monroe, Deer Creek and Rock Creek. The town of Camden is located in the north of the township and has a population of 2,816. It was established in 1872. It has been named after a former president of the United States, James A. Camden, who died in 1883. The name of the town is derived from the word "Camden" which means "council" or "town" in English. It means "town of the same name" in French and "Cadillac" in Spanish. The village of Camden was founded in 1876. It had a population in 1881 of 1,822. It became a township in 1882. It received its current name in 1894. It includes the townships of Liberty (north) and Monroe (east) and Deer Creek (west) and the village of Rock Creek (northwest) in Indiana's Upper Peninsula. In 1894, it was the site of the first recorded European settlement in the state. The first European settlement was in 1805.
