Calera is a town in Bryan County, Oklahoma, United States, located five miles south of Durant and 10 miles north of the Oklahoma-Texas state line. The population was 2,164 at the 2010 census, an increase of 24.4 percent over the figure of 1,739 recorded in 2000. Calera was formerly known as Cale Switch or Cale, when in 1872 the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railway built a railroad through the Choctaw Nation, and the small community was established on the east side of the tracks. The name Cale came from railroad official George W. Cale. In 1910 the town accepted the name Calera. The town has a wide variety of travelers through the streets. This is because of travelers and tourists visiting theChoctaw Casino & Resort, which is north of town. Thanks to this, the town has experienced economic growth over the last few years. More eating establishments such as Sonic Drive-In and Subway have opened in recent years. Other places people can get food include Okie Donuts, The Iron Gate Cafe, and The Best Inn & Suites. There is also a hotel and hotel being built in the small town. The U.S. Highway 69/75, north-south, is the second busiest route in Oklahoma after Interstate 69. History

Cale. In 1910 the town accepted the name Calera. At the time of its founding Cale was located in Blue County, a part of the Moshulatubbee District of the Choctoraw Nation, and was part of Indian Territory. The town is now located in the U.S. state of Kansas and has a population of about 2,000 people. It is located near the town of Katy, which is also in Indian Territory and was once known as Sterrett, which was also known as Katy, also referred to as Missouri,Kansas, and Texas. The superintendent of these schools has been Gerald Parks for five years. He is the current superintendent of the elementary school and high school. He was also the Superintendent of the Elementary School and High School for four years, between 2010 and 2012. The Elementary School is for children who are Between the Grades of Head-Start and First Grade. The High School is For students between the Sixth and Seventh Grades. It is also for students between those grades of Seventh and Eighth Grade. It has been named the High School of the Future by the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSA) for the past three years. It was named the School of The Future in 2012. It will be the first high school of the future to be named as part of the OSSA in 2015. The School of Tomorrow will be formed in 2016. The first school of this type will be in 2017.

Extracurricular Activities

Calera High School's Academic team won the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association State Championship in 1995. The Calera boys' basketball program has advanced to the state tournament seven times, and is home to the 1956 Class B Boys State Champions. In 2014, the Calera girls' softball basketball team was named Area Quarterfinalist. Calera is also home to three individual cross-country state champions, as well as three 1600m state champions. The local FFA chapter was named Three Star National FFA Chapter and the National Convention form 2007 through 2011, and has experienced major successes in Career Development Events at the State and National levels. The school's softball team has been successful in the last few years. In the 2014, 2015, and 2016 Slow-Pitch season the girls advanced to state tournament. the 2014 season was the first time any girls' team at Calera High school had made it to a state tournament, and it was a first for the school's slow-pitch team.
