Myersville is a town in Frederick County, Maryland, United States. The population was 1,626 at the 2010 United States Census. In October 2002, the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area snipers John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo were apprehended at a rest stop along westbound I-70 in Myersville. The Peter of P. Grossnickel Farm was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. The town is located at 39°3024N 77°3359W (39.506627, -77.566271) The main highway that serves the town is Interstate 70, which heads eastward from Myersville to Baltimore and westward to Pittsburgh. The Myersville area is the source of Catoctin Creek, which roughly flows in a "C" loop pattern (northside to eastside to southside) just outside the city limits. In the 2000 census, there were 1,382 people, 439 households, and 378 families living in the town. At the 2010 census, the town had a total area of 1.02 square miles (2.64 km²), all land. The racial makeup of the town was 98.48% White, 2.2% African American, 0.7% Native American, 1.3% Asian, and 1.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.5% of the population. The average household size was 3.06 and the average family size was3.41.

History

The town of Myersville was incorporated in 1904. The Peter of P. Grossnickel Farm was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. In October 2002, the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area snipers John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo were apprehended at a rest stop along westbound I-70 in Myersville. The two were discovered when a truck driver recognized their car from police reports. On January 4, 1919, a large fire destroyed many shops and buildings in the center of the town. The town is located on the banks of the Rappahannock River, which flows into the Potomac River. It is located near the junction of Interstate 70 and I-95. It has a population of about 2,000, including about 1,000 residents who live in the town's downtown area, which is about 20 miles north of Washington, DC.

The town is home to the Myersville High School football team, which won the state championship in 2010. The school's football field is named after the town's namesake, Myersville, a former mayor of the same name, who was killed in a car accident in 1961. The high school football team won the school's state title in 2010, the first time the school had won the title in the history of the state. The team also won the U.S. National Football League championship in 2006, the second year in a row, and the first since the 1990s. The city's football stadium is named for former mayor, who died in 2007, and is located on the banks of the Ohio River, which runs through the town. The football field was named after Myersville's founder, William "Bill" Myers, who also served as mayor in the 1930s and '40s. It is the site of a former post office, which was built in the early 1900s.

The main highway that serves the town is Interstate 70, which heads eastward from Myersville to Baltimore and westward to Pittsburgh. Access to Myersville is provided via an interchange with Maryland Route 17, which serves western Frederick County on a northsouth alignment. U.S. Route 40 passes just to the northeast of the town limits and provides an alternative to I-70 for eastwest travelers. The town is located in Frederick County, which is part of the Eastern Seaboard region of the United States. Myersville has a population of about 2,000 people. It is located on the eastern edge of Frederick County and the western edge of Anne Arundel County, where it is in the western part of Frederick and Anne Arapahoe counties.
